Hi, I've seen both and in my opinion there is nothing to choose between them, both stunning. The dunes at Merzouga can be seen all the time, one can just walk in and explore when one feels like it. I was there at full moon which was amazing. Erg Chigaga needs a 4wd or a lengthy camel walk, the river had swept the bridge away at M'hamid although the hotels will bring you across with 4wd. We waded across (very cold!)
