The woman was severely injured but able to call 911 and was taken to a hospital. No black bear attack fatalities have been recorded in state history.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said the search is ongoing for the black bear behind an attack in Barron County.

A 69-year-old Wisconsin woman is recovering after she was attacked by a black bear and hospitalized for her injuries. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. local time on Saturday, July 12 outside the rural home of victim Karen Frye near Comstock.
