Children’s Hospital New Orleans opened in March 1955 as the Crippled Children’s Hospital, designed to care for children during the polio epidemic as a rehabilitation facility. With 53 beds, the hospital on Henry Clay Avenue opened after a five-year campaign to raise $1,175,000 for its construction.

Children’s Hospital will now be known as Manning Family Children’s. While hospital officials did not disclose how much money the Mannings donated, they did say that the family will partner with LCMC Health to help share the hospital’s story.
