Similar to Nvidia, AMD is now also poised to restart Chinese sales of its MI308 chips. The California-based company said in a statement that the Commerce Department was moving forward with license applications for these exports to China, and that it plans to resume shipments as those licenses are approved.

Chinese firms are scrambling to buy Nvidia's H20 artificial intelligence chips, two sources told Reuters, as the company said it planned to resume sales to the mainland days after its CEO met U.S. President Donald Trump.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang praised China's AI models a day after the U.S. chipmaker said it expected to resume sales of a key product to China. "More than 1.5 million developers in China build on Nvidia today to bring their innovations to life," he said.

Nvidia said in a statement that it is filing applications with the US government to resume H20 sales and that "the US government has assured Nvidia that licenses will be granted, and Nvidia hopes to start deliveries soon.

The AI chip giant is cheering now, but the celebration may be short.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang hailed Chinese AI models like DeepSeek as world-class, adding that AI is ‘fundamental infrastructure’ akin to electricity. Speaking in Beijing, he called China's open-source AI a ‘catalyst for global progress’.
