Two people were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard after their plane crashed into the Long Island Sound, which is near Tweed New Haven Airport.

By the time rescue crews from other areas responded to the scene, the plane had fully submerged, according to local fire officials.

The Piper PA-32 went down near Thimble Islands about 10 minutes into its takeoff from Bridgeport, according to a report.
