Two fans died and a police officer is in a coma after celebrations for Paris Saint-Germain’s historic Champions League victory, European soccer’s biggest prize, French authorities said.

Germain's (PSG) first-ever UEFA Champions League victory on Saturday, May 31, sparked widespread celebrations in Paris that quickly turned chaotic. Clashes erupted between fans and police, with flares and tear gas deployed.

“Paris Saint-Germain condemns in the strongest possible terms the violence that occurred during the celebrations,” PSG wrote on social media on Sunday afternoon, with their players having flown back to Paris from Munich with the Champions League trophy ahead of their open-top bus parade.
