The wintry weather has prompted many Kansas City schools to cancel classes for Monday. After the winter storm moves out of the metro, bone-chilling cold will sweep across the Kansas City area, plunging wind chills to as low as 15 degrees below zero.

Here's the latest information on how the system's snow and ice are affecting tens of millions in the central and eastern U.S.

The storm will also bring heavy wind: The NWS issued blizzard warnings across central Kansas into southeastern Nebraska and northwestern Missouri, with wind gusts exceeding 40 miles per hour, and the Mid-Atlantic could face 20-25 mile-per-hour gusts in some cases.

Snow and ice are already wreaking havoc throughout the Kansas City area on Saturday night, and even more winter weather is coming overnight through Sunday evening.
