Across the Irish border Met Eireann has issued a rare nationwide red warning for wind across the Republic of Ireland, describing possible “danger to life”. A Met Office spokesperson said peak rush hour wind speeds of 80-90 miles per hour are expected across Northern Ireland, with up to 100mph in some exposed locations.

A yellow weather warning for fog has been issued for parts of Northern Ireland. The Met Office said it is to last from 00:00 GMT on Wednesday until 11:00 and is active everywhere in Northern Ireland except for western parts of County Fermanagh and the north west, including Londonderry and Strabane.
