LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles County has reached a $4 billion agreement to settle nearly 7,000 claims of sexual abuse in juvenile facilities since 1959, officials said Friday.

Theodore McCarrick, the former archbishop of Washington who was accused of sexually abusing minors and adults, has died, according to a statement by his successor, Cardinal Robert McElroy.

The former cardinal was expelled from the priesthood after the church found him guilty of sexual abuse. He was accused in several states, including Massachusetts.

Defrocked Catholic Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, who faced sexual abuse allegations in Massachusetts and elsewhere, has died.
