Ford's Mustang Mach-E NASCAR prototype, an all-electric 1,360-horsepower racecar, combines innovative electric technology with traditional NASCAR elements.

Many legacy automakers have spent the last few years making headway into the EV market — or fine-tuning their strategy for that space. That can mean pricing changes, new models or infrastructure deals like those that have seen more automakers being able to use Tesla’s Superchargers.

The most powerful Mustang Mach-E you can buy today is the GT model. It has a dual-motor powertrain and standard all-wheel drive, a setup that’s rated at a stout 480 horsepower and up to 700 pound-feet of torque with the optional performance upgrade.

Mustang Mach-E owner was stranded after his EV lost power and refused to move. The car’s doors and power systems failed, leaving the driver without an easy way inside. Ford recalled some older Mach-Es for a similar fault but this model was never included.

While Ford has yet to release details of the Mach-E NASCAR, it will likely share similar characteristics of the NASCAR EV that was demonstrated in Chicago. The EV accelerated twice as fast as gas-powered NASCARs but suffered in corners due to its extra battery weight.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E stock car has three motors and, like the unbranded NASCAR demonstrator revealed last year, uses the NASCAR Next Gen chassis.

Ford likes to go racing. It announced yesterday that it will attempt to achieve an overall win at Le Mans in 2027, but it also hasn’t forgotten about America. The Blue Oval has just introduced a new Mustang Mach-E prototype for NASCAR.
