2026 Lexus RZ electric car update debuts with simulated manual shifter
The 2026 Lexus RZ electric vehicle (EV) will feature substantial upgrades in driving range and electric motor output, as well as a new RZ550e flagship that features a 'manual' shifter to simulate gear changes.

The Manual Drive is one of two key tech breakthroughs for Lexus in one volt-driven swing, with the other being steer-by-wire, um, steering. Toyota’s luxury arm has been teasing it for a while now, so it’ll be interesting to see just how a lack of physical connection between the driver and the axle could pay off.
2026 Lexus RZ 550e F Sport adds power, simulated gear shifts
At the global reveal, which took place in Brussels, Belgium, Lexus stated that the RZ 550e F Sport packs a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system rated at 402 hp, nearly 100 hp more than the current RZ lineup’ s top output. Lexus said it also fine-tuned the damper and spring settings to accommodate the RZ 550e F Sport’s extra power.
2026 Lexus RZ Gets Yoked Steer-By-Wire And Simulated Gears
Lexus will sell the new RZ in RZ 350e, RZ 500e, and RZ 550e F Sport trims in Europe. It now features simulated gears and synthetic ‘engine’ sounds for added engagement. The brand has yet to announce specifications for the refreshed North American model.
