THE M6 is still shut after a massive oil spill sparked hour-long delays and miles of gridlocked traffic. A lorry ploughed into a the central reservation on the M6 at 1pm yesterday near Preston

Rush hour traffic has been hit by severe delays in Lancashire after the M6 northbound was closed overnight and only recently reopened. National Highways North West said a lorry had been involved in a collision on Monday evening and had come to rest on the central reservation between junctions 31 and 32 northbound by Preston.

The M6 remains shut at Preston this morning after a serious lorry crash yesterday. The motorway remains closed northbound as emergency barrier repairs continue between J31 (Samlesbury) and J32 (M55) in Preston. Lane 4 (of 4) is also closed on the southbound carriageway, between J32 and J31A, to assist with the repairs.

National Highways warned drivers on Thursday morning that motorway had been closed southbound between J3 and J2 near Coventry. It remained closed for around five hours, with motorists travelling in the area during the morning and early afternoon facing delays of up to 60 minutes.

Northbound lanes 1 to 3 reopened at around 8am, after the carriageway was closed overnight for resurfacing and barrier repairs between J31 (Samlesbury) and J32 (M55). Lane 4 in both directions was also closed while repairs to the damaged central reservation were completed this morning. Both lanes are now open.

Motorists are facing 'severe' rush-hour delays of around 50 minutes this morning (March 11) as emergency barrier repairs continue. The northbound carriageway has been shut to traffic between Junction 31 and Junction 32 since the incident was first reported at around 1pm on Monday (March 10).
