"We're telling our flight attendants we're going to support them," Hancock said.

"If Air Canada thinks planes will be flying this afternoon, they're sorely mistaken," said Canadian Union of Public Employees president Mark Hancock.

Air Canada, in a statement issued on Monday afternoon, estimated that the strike, which began early Saturday morning, had resulted in the cancellation of flights for 500,000 passengers.
