Members of the organization were working throughout Davenport with the help of volunteers, starting at one of the city’s fire department stations.

The American Red Cross is encouraging you to test your their smoke alarms to make sure the devices are working as you turn the clocks forward of daylight saving time on Sunday.

During the month of March, the Red Cross is working with volunteers and fire departments across the state to install around 1,600 free smoke alarms and go door-to-door to teach people in Georgia how to stay ready to respond to a fire if one should happen in their home.

Every second counts when there’s a home fire and the sooner an alarm alerts you to a fire, the sooner you can get to a safer place. When daylight saving time ends this weekend, test your smoke alarms to help prevent a tragedy in your home.

The Reno Fire Department is reminding the public to check their smoke alarms ahead of daylight saving time. Clocks will spring ahead by one hour at 2:00 a.m. this Sunday. They say that three out of every five home fire deaths result from fires in homes that have either inoperable smoke alarms or no smoke alarms at all.
