A federal judge ordered that the case of Rümeysa Öztürk, a graduate student at Tufts University, be moved to Vermont, where she was in ICE custody before being moved to Louisiana.

Tufts University leaders said that they have no information that supports the revocation of Rümeysa Öztürk's visa or her detainment in an ICE facility in Louisiana.

Ahead of a Boston court hearing scheduled Thursday regarding federal immigration agents' detainment of a Tufts University student, the school called for her release.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has detained Tufts University student Rumeysa Ozturk in Somerville, Massachusetts, according to the agency and a statement the school.

Rümeysa Öztürk, a Tufts University graduate student, was arrested in Massachusetts and sent to the South Louisiana ICE processing center in the swamplands of Evangeline parish in Basile. Sending detainees to the cluster of remote immigration detention centers known as “Detention Alley” in the south is a common practice.

For the last year and a half, Tufts Students for Israel has battled against criticism of Israel on the Boston-area campus. But on Thursday, the group took a stance of a different kind: It published an op-ed in the campus newspaper advocating for the school’s most prominent pro-Palestinian student.
