Tropical Storm Chantal made landfall in South Carolina, prompting warnings of flooding, heavy rain, and strong winds.

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — Tropical Storm Chantal has left a devastating impact on Alamance County. The storm brought heavy rain, winds and flooding to many areas of the county. In response, the county has set up a call center to answer questions about the storm and its impact. The call center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

North Carolina Assistant State Climatologist Corey Davis said the storm brought big concerns. "These types of storms that form early in the season right off our coastline rarely, they rarely have big impacts," said Davis. Chantal exceeded some of the rainfall and river crest records set during Hurricane Fran in 1996.

Many in central North Carolina are dealing with the remnants of Tropical Depression Chantal, which brought heavy rain Sunday night causing significant flooding across the region and was blamed for three deaths in central North Carolina.

Chantal, now a tropical depression, is expected to bring heavy rainfall to multiple states along the east coast on Monday, July 7.
