The French government hopes the new measures will improve public health but some people will see the move as a surprise

New regulations have been implemented in France. Starting from today, Tuesday, July 1, France has prohibited smoking on beaches, parks, outside schools, and other public areas in an effort to reduce cancer risks and cultivate a tobacco-free generation.

A new smoking ban took effect on Tuesday in France, barring smokers from lighting up in outdoor places where children are likely to gather, including beaches and parks. CBS News foreign correspondent Ramy Inocencio has more details.
