A failed interception of a missile fired from Yemen forced Israel to briefly shut down its main international airport on Sunday, exposing the country’s vulnerabilities and the Houthi rebels’ continued ability to strike distant targets despite a sustained US military campaign.

Ben Gurion International Airport, Israel's main travel hub, was hit Sunday with a Houthi missile that bypassed Israeli and American defense systems.

Israeli defenses tried but failed to intercept the missile fired by the Houthis in Yemen before it struck the airport, where it lightly injured several people and caused flights to be canceled for several hours. The Houthis, an Iranian proxy, have been firing on Israel for months, but their missiles have largely been destroyed before making impact.
