Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested Friday at an ICE Detention Center where he was protesting its opening, a federal prosecutor said.

About five hours after being arrested in the afternoon, Mayor Ras Baraka was released. He's been charged with trespassing.

American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey Executive Director Amol Sinha, in a statement sent to Newsweek via email on Friday: "The arrest of Mayor Ras Baraka by the Department of Homeland Security is a shameful escalation of the Trump administration's intimidation campaign against officials who refuse to do their bidding."

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Friday that the “glitch this morning at Newark” was caused by the same issues as last week.

Radar systems at Newark Liberty International Airport stopped working for about 90 seconds Friday morning, the second major outage for the New Jersey airport.

Newark has had disruptions since April 28, when controllers lost contact and couldn't guide planes for upwards of 30 seconds.
