The Department of Homeland Security has moved to terminate a form of humanitarian relief for migrants from Nicaragua and Honduras residing in the United States, according to an announcement from the department and draft notices published in the Federal Register.

The Trump administration will terminate deportation protections for thousands of Hondurans and Nicaraguans in the U.S., according to Federal Register notices posted on Monday, part of a broad effort by the president to strip legal status from migrants.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced Monday that it would rescind protections from deportation for Nicaragua and Honduras. The move ends temporary protected status (TPS) for citizens of those countries living in the U.
