Concacaf Champions Cup has reached the round of 16 and with it comes an all Liga MX matchup with a twist. Chivas Guadalajara and Club America will meet in El Super Clasico, one of the most historic rivalries in Mexican soccer.

In the first of three Clásico Nacional's in the next week, Chivas defended their home turf and defeated Club América 1–0 in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup round of 16.

Chivas decided to sack Oscar Garcia in the buildup to the meeting despite the Spaniard joining the club in January. In actual fact, the 2024/25 season has been a torrid one for the club witnessing former manager Fernando Gago leave the club with the Argetine since being released by his boyhood club Boca Juniors.
