Starting Tuesday, your wallets will start to feel a bit of a squeeze as the six-cent gas tax increase kicks in.

Lawmakers considered other ways to fund the state's megaprojects, highway maintenance and ferries, but stuck with the gas tax because of its low overhead.

The tax will rise by 6 cents a gallon, the first increase in nine years for the primary revenue source sustaining Washington’s transportation system.
